Beverley Martins Care Agency
The Business Challenge
Legally, all staff that work in Health and Social Care, either in residential homes or domiciliary care need to take a Moving and Handling course before they start work and they are required to take a refresher annually to ensure that they are always up to date with the latest legislation and to keep the training fresh in their minds.
For a domiciliary care agency, such as Beverley Martin’s, who have a vast workforce working out in the field, this can often be difficult to coordinate.
The Solution
Greenwich Community College delivered both a full day Moving and Handling for new Carers’ course and a half day ‘Refresher’ course for Beverley Martin’s staff in their training room at their office. The course was delivered at a time that was easiest for the carer workers visits to be covered by others where necessary and the fact that it took place at their office meant that it was convenient for all care workers to get to.
The Impact
The care workers have now attended their Moving and Handling courses (both full and half day) and have been signed off by the trainer, meaning that Beverley Martin’s Care Agency has fulfilled its legal obligation and the staff can work safely in the field.
Employer View
The manager fed back following the courses that they had gone ‘really well’. The main observation that she had was that the learners had really enjoyed the course and had fun, and she felt that the learners came away feeling very positive and upbeat about what they had learnt.
