The Business Challenge
Kidbrooke School in Greenwich is building a learning community where diversity, equality and respect matter. They endeavour to ensure that all learners are healthy, safe and valued. They challenge learners to become knowledgeable, independent thinkers with the creativity, skills, and motivation to go forward confidently and successfully in their lives.
Market research identified skills and facilities shortage in darkroom use within schools in the London Borough of Greenwich. Continual Professional Development (CPD) was offered to teachers of photography A/S & A levels in order for learners to be given the opportunity of using darkroom facilities.
The Solution
Greenwich Community College delivered darkroom training to the tutors to help them close the identified skill gap.
The Impact
Teachers were able to instil among their learners that working in the darkroom is not always as fast and smooth as logging into Photoshop, but that magical moment when an actual image appears, out of nowhere, on the blank paper without any doubt can make all other moments of technical aggravation worthwhile.
The learners now have a rounded view of photographic processes both digitally and in the darkroom (under technician supervision), providing them with an alternative method for producing mandatory course work using Greenwich Community College’s excellent darkroom facilities.
