Millwall Football Club
The Business Challenge
Established in 1885, Millwall Football Club is a storied history as a south east London team with a vigorous following locally and internationally. Currently in the Coca-cola Football League 1, the Lions recent history includes several season in the Coca-cola Championship and as finalist in the FA cup.
Millwall FC, like all prominent club, has a growing need for training stewards and event staff to meet recent changes in local council and licensing regulation. Greenwich Community College has met the requirements of Millwall Football Club by delivering training courses at The New Den since 2006.
The Solution
The following training package was developed which would help Millwall meet the regulations:
- 1st 4 Sport Certificate in Events and Match Day Stewarding
- NVQ LV2 Spectator Control
- NVQ LV2 Spectator Safety
- NVQ LV3 Spectator Control
- NVQLV3 Spectator Safety
- A1 Assessor award
The Impact
13 Stewarding Supervisors are working to complete their NVQ3 Spectator Safety qualifications, intending to finish by May 2010. An additional 16 stewards are being identified by the club to commence NVQ2 Spectator Safety in January 2010.
Employer View
“We as a football club are compelled our regulator authorities to train all stewarding staff to a minimum standard and in a set time frame. Recent cuts to funding have made our relationship with Greenwich Community College even more valuable. The College has been able to source funding, continue training our staff and prevented the club from being exposed to licensing risk.”
