What does the course include?
The award is designed for people who want to work as a CCTV Operator undertaking surveillance of public spaces and consists of three mandatory units.
- Unit 1: Working in the Private Security Industry
- Unit 2: Working as a CCTV Operator
- Unit 3: Practical Use of CCTV Equipment
What are the benefits for employers?
The SIA currently recognises that it is essential for all CCTV Public Space Surveillance (PSS) Operators to have undergone a structured programme of training and education resulting in recognised qualifications if they are to be effective and professional in their role This course is the practical response to this requirement.
There are around 600,000 people employed in the security industry. The demand for security officers is growing. With the upcoming Olympics games and futures international event scheduled you may be employed by many different organisations, including hospitals, airports, large businesses and construction companies.

What do I need to get onto this course?
No prior qualifications required this is appropriate to new entrants to the industry; people transferring from other security functions, as well as those whose job includes public spaces surveillance.
How will I be assessed?
Through both internal assessment (practical tasks) and external Assessment (multiple choice testing).
Where does it lead?
Learners who successfully complete this course are able to apply for a licence to practice within the Security industry from the Security Industry Authority (SIA). There is also the opportunity to undertake further learning in other areas of the private security industry, such as Spectator Safety or Door Supervision.
