What does the course include?

On 1st November 2010, BBC One screened Panorama: What Have the Drugs Done to Dad. This programme brought to light the alarming over use of anti-psychotic drugs for dementia patients and focussed on the fact that the use of drugs needs to be curtailed and replaced by quality training for health and social care staff, friends and family members caring for individuals with dementia.

The course is designed to be flexible, to accommodate the needs of the employer and can be delivered on the employer’s site.

This course provides an awareness for carers working closely with individuals with dementia.

Dementia is a degenerative disease, usually of chronic or progressive nature affecting the brain’s functions such as memory, thinking, orientation, language and judgement.
This course includes definition, terminology, the Mental Capacity Act. Care workers will benefit from the person centred approach towards this course.

There will be discussion and reflection on the use of drugs for individuals with dementia, the side effects and alternative solutions.

What are the benefits for employers?

This course can be held at the employers place of work.
